Wrentham Open Space Committee Nature Walks in April
April 11 at 7:15 pm at Birchwold Farm: Birdwatching
Can you fly into the air and circle as you rise and then swoop down like a daredevil? The woodcock can! The unique mating dance of this unusual bird is going on now, but first you have to know where to look.
Michelle Dextraze will lead a woodcock walk at Wrentham's Birchwold Conservation area on Tuesday April 11th at 7:15 pm. Raindate for this event will be Wednesday April 26th at 7:30 pm. Meet in the Birchwold parking lot on West Street across from Joe’s Rock.
You will traverse a few small ridges into the grassy field habitat of Birchwold where the woodcocks live and mate. Participants should dress for the weather.
This special program presented by the Wrentham Open Space Committee is free and open to all.
April 30- 10am at Birchwold Farm: Exploring the Forest for Clues to the Past
Have you ever wondered what the forests in your neighborhood, local park or your own backyard looked like 50 or 100 years ago or more? Who built those stone walls in the middle of the woods, and why? Every landscape holds clues that can uncover what it was used for in a previous life. Here is your chance to learn how to read those clues!
The Wrentham Open Space Committee invites you to join Doug Williams, Director of Mass. Audubon's Stony Brook Nature Sanctuary, on a walk through the fields and forests of Wrentham's Birchwold Farm Conservation Area. You will see firsthand how the landscape has been shaped by past events, both natural and man-made, and learn how to interpret what's there today. This free, public walk was made possible by a grant from the Sweatt Fund, and is sponsored by the Wrentham Open Space Committee. It begins at10:00 AM on Sunday, April 30th at Birchwold. We will gather at 9:45 in the Birchwold parking lot off West Street. Dress accordingly for the weather.
